Rafa and Xisca’s first child, Rafael, was born on October 8, 2022

Scottie Scheffler shares a funny golf memory: Actually, you’re still paying, buddy

golf

Scottie Scheffler, with his dominance, is becoming an increasingly interesting figure on the golf scene. The 29-year-old golfer arouses the interest of the public, and his press releases are more and more interesting. Reporters do not only focus on his performances, but also want to find out more about his past and the specifics of his upbringing.

Scottie is not a person who opens up a lot, nor does he touch on his childhood and growing up, but reporters often try to get interesting information from him.

At the press conference before the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the world number 1 got some interesting questions, and one of them was really specific: Does Scottie Scheffler remember the last time he paid for a round of golf?

The 29-year-old made everyone present laugh with a story that happened a few years ago.

"Last time I paid for a round of golf? It's been a while. I remember the last time I didn't get to pay for a round of golf and one of my buddies in the pro shop had to pay for the round of golf. That was pretty funny. We walked into the pro shop at the local public course, and I knew the pro there, and he was like, hey, Scottie, how you doing, great to have you out. I was like, I'd like to just pay for the round, we're teeing off at 2:00. He's like, you're good. My buddy was like, thanks, man, that's awesome, appreciate it. He's like, actually, you've got to pay.

It was probably five years ago and we still laugh about it to this day because he was so excited to get the free round and the pro was like, actually you're still paying, buddy.."- he said.

Scheffler's future

It is hard to imagine Scheffler paying for a round of golf, especially now that he is such an important figure on the golf scene. Some are predicting that Scottie will break all the records of the golf icon, but giving such predictions at this moment seems too optimistic.

There is no doubt that Scottie could achieve much greater success, but the important thing is that he remains healthy, just as motivated, but even so, there are many factors that will dictate his path.

Figures prove that Portrush was a triumph

Antrim coast

The 153rd edition of The Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club (July 17-20, 2025) set a new standard in attendance, television viewership, and digital engagement, as the tournament's return six years after Irishman Shane Lowry's success on the iconic Antrim coast provided an unforgettable spectacle that captivated fans worldwide.

A record 278,000 fans marked the highest attendance ever recorded for The Open, with the exception of St Andrews, once again highlighting the immense passion that exists for golf in Ireland. For the first time, all practice days were sold out with a record 90,000 fans in attendance, while 19,000 children were able to enjoy The Open as part of the Kids go Free initiative. More than 1.2 million applications were received for the ticket draw.

Portrush, results

The Open's reach extended well beyond Royal Portrush, reaching millions of viewers worldwide. In the UK, Sky Sports recorded its most-watched Open ever with 21.2 million hours watched, representing a significant 36% increase over the previous year. The final round marked Sky's second-largest Sunday audience since 2021. In the US, NBC/Peacock's coverage of the final averaged 4.1 million viewers, a 21% increase over 2024, and Sunday's audience reached over 6.1 million viewers. Overall, NBC Sports' coverage was its most-watched since 2022.

These record-breaking figures are a testament to the enduring appeal of The Open and fans' passion for the links. “The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush truly set a new standard for attendance, television audiences, and digital engagement,” said Neil Armit, Chief Commercial Officer of the R&A. “The incredible support from fans at The Open and those watching around the world, combined with the exceptional performances on the course, created an atmosphere that will be remembered for years to come. These record-breaking numbers are a testament to the enduring appeal of The Open and the fans’ passion for the links. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved together with our partners.”

Digital platforms played an equally crucial role in the tournament’s success by connecting with fans in innovative and interactive ways. TheOpen.com experienced record traffic, reaching its highest number of users and page views in a single day, with a 60% increase in page views compared to 2024. The Featured Groups stream also reached all-time highs in watch time and weekend performance, contributing to the second-highest live stream views ever, up 15% compared to 2024.

The official app also saw its highest daily user count ever, up 21%, with four days recording over 400,000 users. New features such as the lock screen leaderboard and improved access to live streaming contributed to a significant 96% increase in average session duration.

Social media engagement exploded, with nearly 400,000 new followers, a 178% increase over 2024, and generated over 436 million views across platforms. Key follower milestones were reached across all major platforms, including 795,000 on Instagram.

The launch of ticket sales for the 154th The Open at Royal Birkdale also saw the highest number of requests since 2022 for the 150th edition, which was then held at St Andrews.

Venus Williams shares how she would raise her kid if she ever became mother

actor

Venus Williams says if she were ever to become a parent, she would definitely raise them the way she and her sister Serena were raised.

In the game of tennis, the Williams sisters left a major mark and paved the path for future generations of Black players to have success in the game. However, their journey wasn't the easiest as they have been open over the years about how challenging it was to succeed or be accepted just because of the colors of their skin.

Since 2017, Serena has welcomed two kids. On the other side, Venus hasn't achieved her motherhood dreams. However, if the moments comes for that to happen, the 45-year-old knows how she will want her kids to be raised.

Venus Williams: I'd want my kid to be proud of out African American heritage

“I was thinking, gosh, if I have kids, I really have to raise them the way my parents raised us – just to be proud of who we were, to know our history as African Americans. So, me being there was not necessarily even special. It was like, I am who I am. Looking back, I'm glad I had that level of oblivion," the seven-time Grand Slam champion told Marie Claire UK.

Just last week, Williams revealed in an Instagram post that a year ago, she had surgery to remove fibroids and a large focal adenomyoma from her uterus. In her message, the former world No. 1 also said that she was misdiagnosed for years and that she was also told by the doctors that conceiving her own child was impossible. But after finding the right doctor, she solved her problem.

"I was told I was inoperable. I was told I could bleed to death on the table. I was told to get a surrogate and forget the hope to carry my own children. I was misdiagnosed. I went untreated for years and years and years," Williams wrote.

Recently, Williams also confirmed that she is in a happy relationship and engaged to Italian actor Andre Pretti.

Matt Fitzpatrick reveals main physical challenge in collaboration with new coach

BBC

Matt Fitzpatrick shows a part of what we have been expecting from him for a long time, and his performance at the Open Championship really arouses optimism in the public. The 30-year-old has had poor releases in recent years, and all of this forced him to make a bizarre decision: Parting with his long-time coach, Mike Walker.

Bizarre decision that caused a public response, probably turned out to be positive for him, as the new collaboration turned out to be fruitful, at least for now.

The 30-year-old started working with the new coach, Mark Blackburn, quite delighted with his approach.

Matt stressed that it was unusual to get used to new methods and a new coach, but it is clear that if you want to progress, it is sometimes necessary to make concrete decisions.

"It was the first time I've ever had anyone look at my swing, or get a lesson off someone not named Mike Walker or Pete Cowen in 15 years," Fitzpatrick said, as quoted by BBC.

During the first days of cooperation, Blackburn analyzed Fitzpatrick, his physique and abilities, determining that he has unusually long arms.

While some think this could be an advantage, the English golfer stresses that it is mostly a disadvantage for him.

"Which is not great for hitting irons because its harder to control the depth of the club, and you are going to hit it heavier more often than not," he said.

"The other thing was I don't have great shoulder flexion and because of that, as soon as I swing it too long I come out of posture and my swing is all out of whack."

The famous golfer revealed that he is now changing his body position, pulling his shoulder back and push out his chest.

"It's me trying to pinch my shoulder blades together," he said.

"It is basically to create the radius of my arms, which means I can just rotate there and I don't need to stretch or move my arms."

Methods

Whether the new methods and new coach will turn out to be a good move by Fitzpatrick, time will tell. In the world of sports, including golf, changes usually bring positivities, and some special momentum.

Matt seems to be an optimist, but we will see if his optimism will ultimately pay off.

From beard to clean shave: The surprising change behind Cameron Young’s look

Beard

Cameron Young is a golfer who has been making headlines in recent days, after an impressive performance and his first PGA Tour victory (Wyndham Championship).

Many are now analyzing not only his performance, but also his appearance.

It is known that the 28-year-old golfer has always worn a full beard, but two years ago, many were surprised to see Young shaved.

Although many wondered what was the reason for his bizarre decision, the famous golfer revealed that it was his wife, Kelsey Dalition.

Young made everyone laugh, saying that he probably hasn't shaved since their first son was born.

“Honestly, my wife just kind of said, ‘Why don’t you shave?’ It wasn’t like … I don’t think I looked terrible. I don’t know,” Young said, as quoted by the Athlon Sports.

“Yeah, I haven’t been clean-shaven probably since our first son was born.”

Family

The famous golfer had his first child three years ago and has often emphasized the important role his family plays in his life; especially his wife and son. Young spends most of his time with them and admits that he really enjoys family trips.

Those moments “recharge his batteries” and give him extra motivation before important tournaments.

“I have spent a lot of time with my family, my wife. We have a little baby, so spent a lot of family time, which has been great. Honestly, they’ve been out with me the last couple weeks and it’s been such a nice change of pace to be with them on the road.

I think it just keeps you a little fresher. You get off the course and you can kind of forget about golf a little bit, which is really nice,” he concluded.

With the latest victory, the 28-year-old opened many doors and paths for himself, and it seems that after his first PGA Tour title, Young could lift many more trophies in the years ahead.

Eva Lys roasts herself and drops hilarious Iga Swiatek comment after Montreal loss

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova

Eva Lys kept it light after being routed by Iga Swiatek in Montreal as the 69th-ranked German teased herself and also funnily blamed the Pole for always ending her good runs.

The 23-year-old German, who broke into the top-100 for the first time earlier this year, only this year made her maiden appearance at the Canadian Open. And the world No. 69 started solidly, beating Leolia Jeanjean and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova before Swiatek handed her a 6-2 6-2 third-round loss.

On X, a fan posted a video of how the third-seeded Pole saved a game point in the opening game by making Lys run from side to side. The six-time Grand Slam champion also got her first break of the match in that game.

The X video in question was captioned: "Iga has Eva running marathons already." After the match, the German noticed the post and hilariously stated that she thought the same on the court: "Legit what I said to my box 20 mins into the match."

Lys jokes: Swiatek always ending my good runs…

If you can recall, Lys was one of the best stories of this year's Australian Open as she stayed in Melbourne for a couple of days after losing in the qualifying final round before literally entering the draw as a lucky loser at the last moment. The rest is history as the 23-year-old ended up making the round-of-16 and becoming the first lucky loser since 1988 to make the second week at Melbourne Park. Her fairytale run was ended by Swiatek, who beat her 6-0 6-1.

"@iga.swiatek always ending my good runs lol. tried my best, came a little closer this time. we appreciate the small steps. BIGGEST thank you to the amazing fans in Montreal. you made me feel loved. until next year," the German wrote on Instagram.

How Ted Scott’s advice helped Scheffler conquer the greens at Olympics

France

Scottie Scheffler excelled at the Olympics in Paris, winning the gold medal last year. The American golfer was a dominant figure before, and it was expected that he could make a big step in France.

His caddy, Ted Scott, was an important figure along the way.

During a guest appearance on one of the podcasts, Scottie Scheffler referred to the golden medal in Paris, placing a special emphasis on the caddy.

The American golfer is delighted with Scott's behavior, manners, and attitudes.

Although some often downplay the role of caddies in the success of golfers like Scottie Scheffler, the famous golfer stresses that Scott has always been a person whose advice was key for him.

“Teddy is an amazing caddie. He is a great person. He is one of those guys that when he meets somebody they feel like they are his best friend because he treats people so well. He is an amazing guy to be around. Everybody is his best friend. He is extremely likeable,” Scheffler said.

“So having him on the bag, he works as hard as I do, if not harder. So when he gives me information out on the golf course I can really trust knowing that he is not just making stuff up. He knows exactly what slope is up there and how the ball is going to react. He just knows his stuff so I can just go out there and try and hit the shot. I feel like with both of us out there his preparation is so important to what we do. He is just a great asset to me on the golf course and he’s one of my best friends in the whole world too, he’s just an all round great guy.”

Ted Scott's importance

Scheffler had a lot of trouble on the greens, but his caddy played a key role by offering to help him read putts on the remaining nine holes.

Scheffler then played great, as he hit almost all the putts and in the end won the gold medal.

The 29-year-old admitted that he probably wouldn't have been able to win the gold if Scott hadn't been by his side at the time.

Jack Nicklaus surprises content creator with humility and kindness

DOS games

Jack Nicklaus is an icon of golf and the man who made many people fall in love with this sport. There are many who often have prejudices about golf icons, believing that most of them are actually arrogant and cold.

But that is obviously not the case.

Golf content creator Matt Scharff had the opportunity to record a video of Jack Nicklaus on his YouTube channel, and his words after the recording speak volumes about the greatness of Nicklaus.

Scharff admits that it is somewhat strange to be in the company of such a legend who marked an era of golf.

The popular creator had many topics with Nicklaus, carrying only positive emotions from this conversation.

“He’s a bro! When you meet a legend like that we are all very nervous. We are just 20 year old kids, we are literally all like we should not be here. What are we actually doing here? Getting to film Jack and talking to him at lunch. Ordering what he is ordering. We talked for a long time and spent so many hours with him. He shared so many different stories, I wrote them all down in my notes so I could tell my kids about it later."- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

Matt Scharff  shares his impressions

The famous creator was amazed by the modesty of this golfer and his desire to play a round of golf.

Nevertheless, Nicklaus pointed out that he was sorry because they could not play at Muirfield, feeling that Jack had a great desire, and that his words carried a deep sincerity.

“You would think when you meet someone like that he is going to be a certain way. When you meet someone very high up there in their craft, you expect them in your mind to be a certain way and act a certain way.."

Scharff revealed that they had plenty of topics to talk about, and Nicklaus was quite open to sharing some interesting details from his career. This kind of meeting remained deeply engraved in the memory of Scharff, who hopes to have several more opportunities for the same.

With her Wimbledon Runner-Up Speech, Amanda Anisimova Won Wimbledon in her Own Way

The American paid heartfelt tribute to her team and family after a difficult loss, but successful journey. All England Club

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Saturday July 12, 2025

Amanda Anisimova was brutally swept aside by Iga Swiatek in Saturday’s women’s final at Wimbledon. She didn’t manage to capture a single game as the Polish juggernaut won her sixth major title, and first at the All England Club.

Tennis Express

Swiatek’s 6-0, 6-0 triumph is the first double bagel victory in Grand Slam final history, and the Pole’s incredible level is further proof or her status as a legendary talent in our sport.

But Anisimova won hearts with her emotional runner-up speech as she gave the Centre Court crowd insight into her journey to the Wimbledon final, and how her mother played a pivotal role in her development.

“My mom has put in more work than I have honestly,” a teary-eyed Anisimova told the crowd as she paid tribute to her mother, who had flown in to see Saturday’s final. “My mom is the most selfless person I know. She’s done everything to get me to this point.”

Anisimova’s family has endured its share of hardship, as Konstantin Anisimova, the coach and father of Amanda died suddenly in 2017 when Amanda was just 17.

It was phenomenal to watch Anisimova pull herself together after a brutal loss and celebrate her journey.

She apologized to the crowd for talking too long, but in truth the audience was enraptured.

“I’m so happy that I get to share this moment, and for you to be here and witness this in person, you don’t get to see me live playing that much anymore, because you do so much for me and my sister, and you always have.

It would be foolish not to focus on Anisimova’s journey and the incredible effort she has put in to overcome her grief and subsequent mental health issues to become a Wimbledon finalist and a Top 10 player.

And we likely have not heard the last from the 23-year-old talent.

“I know I didn’t have enough today, but I’m gonna keep putting in the work. I always believe in myself and I hope to be back here again one day,” she concluded.

Raducanu on Relationship with Alcaraz

"“We go back a long way," Emma Raducanu said of US Open mixed doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz.2021 US Open title

Before they were Grand Slam champions, Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu were friends.

The 2022 US Open champion Alcaraz will partner 2021 US Open title holder Raducanu in a star-studded US Open Mixed Doubles event in August.

Tennis Express

That partnership—and Raducanu's appearance to watch Alcaraz play Queen's Club last week—is prompting some media and fans to speculate its destiny the two young superstars will develop a romantic relationship.

Asked about their friendship, Raducanu told BBC "we go back a long way."

“We go back a long way and I think that we both started getting to know each other a lot in 2021,” Raducanu told BBC Sport. "We were like speaking and friends before anyone won anything.”

The pair will play for a $1 Million champion's check in the newly revamped US Open Mixed Doubles event, which features the deepest draw in Flushing Meadows Mixed Doubles history.

Asked if it's destiny the pair will be together, a smiling Raducanu laughed at the question.

"I'm glad the internet is having fun and we're providing some entertainment for everyone," Raducanu replied.

Sakkari to Putintseva: "Nobody Likes You"

The Greek went on the verbal attack after her hard-fought win over Putintseva. Andy Murray

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Sunday June 22, 2025

Maria Sakkari has taken a page from the Andy Murray playbook and called out another player.

Tennis Express

The 86th-ranked Greek wild card got into a spat with Yulia Putintseva after notching a 7-5, 7-6 win over her on Sunday in Bad Homburg. On-court microphones picked up Sakkari telling Putintseva “Nobody likes you” after the first match of the 2025 Bad Homburg Open was completed.

The pair exchanged more than those words, as Sakkari approached Putintseva to clarify what was being said.

"When you shake hands with someone, look them in the eyes," Sakkari said.

She continued her attack of the World No.27 during her post-match interview saying: "I don't think she's going to invite me for dinner for the rest of our lives, but I don't care, to be honest. I have very good friends and I'll go to dinner with them. Let me leave it here, and say that I have respect for her as a player, but that's it."

It reminds us of the time that Murray told Lukas Rosol that everybody hated him:

We’re actually not sure what is meaner: giving someone a bad handshake or telling someone that nobody likes them?

Sakkari will face either Belinda Bencic or Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round at Bad Homburg.
