Montreal: Coco Gauff reduces double fault number but still gets ousted by world No.85

Coco

Coco Gauff reduced her double fault number against Victoria Mboko but still easily lost her Montreal round-of-16 match after the world No. 85 picked up a 6-1 6-4 win in just an hour and two minutes of play.

Right out the gate, rising Canadian star Mboko wanted to show that she came to play and she did so by impressively breaking the top seed three times in the first set to bag the opener.

After easily dropping the opening set, Gauff stabilized on her serve, but also failed to convert any of her four break points in the seventh game. That came back to haunt the American, who got broken in the 10th game of the second set – the game in which she was serving to stay in the match.

Through her first two Montreal matches, Gauff fired a total of 37 double faults. Against Mboko, the top seed had six double faults. But the issue was that she won only 12 of her 27 second serve points – saved only one of five break points she faced – all while also not realizing any of her five break points.

In her maiden WTA 1000 quarterfinal, Mboko will play against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Mboko paid tribute to Gauff after their Montreal match

After sealing the biggest win of her career, the 18-year-old Canadian declared the 21-year-old American "a great champion."

“It’s incredible. I’m so happy to beat such a great champion," the world No. 85 said after beating the two-time Grand Slam winner.

Gauff also spoke highly of the rising Canadian tennis star, tipping her to do some nice things.

“I’m sure we’re going to have many more battles in the future. Yeah, I think she’s going to have a lot of success on tour," Gauff said of the 18-year-old.

World No. 51 Bouzas Maneiro is a pretty favorable quarterfinal matchup for Mboko and the home favorite will definitely like her chances of also making the Montreal semifinal.

The movie, the sequel that golf fans have been eagerly awaiting, has finally been released.

Famous faces of the golf scene such as McIlroy, Schauffele and many others appear in this movie.

During a podcast, Scottie Scheffler shared his thoughts on the sequel to the legendary movie, admitting that he laughed the most at Schauffele's performance in the film.

The 29-year-old is delighted with their lines and acting.

Scheffler pointed out several names that caught his attention the most.

“The one I laughed the hardest at, and I actually texted Xander this the other day, his lines in the movie are really, really funny,” Scheffler said.

“Him and Rickie did a really good job. So did Will Zalatoris. To be honest with you, I thought everyone did a really great job. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for real actors to deal with us trying to make a movie not look terrible and they did a really good job of helping us along. It was really entertaining and really funny.”

Happy Gilmore 2: Reactions

Happy Gilmore 2 has received mostly positive reactions from the public, with many fans admitting that they laughed and enjoyed it.

This movie had been anticipated for a long time, and the directors and producers have clearly met the public’s expectations.

It will be interesting to see if Scheffler will be a part of similar projects in the future, although he is not a person prone to such things.

The 29-year-old wants to be as far away from the public eye as possible, primarily focused on playing and dominating the golf scene.

There was talk that the American might start a YouTube channel, but Scottie admits that he doesn't have much time for it, primarily focused on his family and career.

Still, we'll see what the future holds.

Jack Nicklaus surprises content creator with humility and kindness

DOS games

Jack Nicklaus is an icon of golf and the man who made many people fall in love with this sport. There are many who often have prejudices about golf icons, believing that most of them are actually arrogant and cold.

But that is obviously not the case.

Golf content creator Matt Scharff had the opportunity to record a video of Jack Nicklaus on his YouTube channel, and his words after the recording speak volumes about the greatness of Nicklaus.

Scharff admits that it is somewhat strange to be in the company of such a legend who marked an era of golf.

The popular creator had many topics with Nicklaus, carrying only positive emotions from this conversation.

“He’s a bro! When you meet a legend like that we are all very nervous. We are just 20 year old kids, we are literally all like we should not be here. What are we actually doing here? Getting to film Jack and talking to him at lunch. Ordering what he is ordering. We talked for a long time and spent so many hours with him. He shared so many different stories, I wrote them all down in my notes so I could tell my kids about it later."- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

Matt Scharff  shares his impressions

The famous creator was amazed by the modesty of this golfer and his desire to play a round of golf.

Nevertheless, Nicklaus pointed out that he was sorry because they could not play at Muirfield, feeling that Jack had a great desire, and that his words carried a deep sincerity.

“You would think when you meet someone like that he is going to be a certain way. When you meet someone very high up there in their craft, you expect them in your mind to be a certain way and act a certain way.."

Scharff revealed that they had plenty of topics to talk about, and Nicklaus was quite open to sharing some interesting details from his career. This kind of meeting remained deeply engraved in the memory of Scharff, who hopes to have several more opportunities for the same.
